Shellbark Hickory is a native shade tree. It is the largest true hickory tree. It grows best in wet areas. The bark exfoliates with large strips similar to Shagbark Hickory. The leaves are large and pinnately compound with a yellow-brown fall color. The fruits are edible nuts that appear in the fall.
